The samurai attempts to tame the zebra, symbolising humanity's endeavour to domesticate wild animals. Yet, the zebra remains untamed, refusing to assimilate into human society. Through this painting, the samurai, representing humanity, must come to terms with the reality that not everything can be controlled. The yellow circle in the background was inspired by Van Gogh.

Mosaic style in the background is an element Brahim often uses in his painting taken form his time when he was making ceramic. He took this style down to oil painting to remember he was a pottery maker. The technique behind it is to put one layer down and add another layer. Before the pigment dries, he will use the knife to make the net pattern in the background.
