Brahim Daoud's artistic journey began in Algeria, where he honed his skills in pottery, ranging from ancient Egyptian designs to anatomical stained-glass art influenced by his doctor friends. Relocated to the UK in 2000, he temporarily set aside his creative pursuits until discovering the New Art Studio, reigniting his passion for art.
At the age of 32, Brahim tried painting on canvas for the first time in his life; he found a new facet of himself, feeling guided by the brush and inspired by the mysteries unveiled on his canvas. His paintings often feature figures gazing in a single direction, hinting at unseen secrets, as Brahim explores the enigmatic aspects of his identity through his art.
Drawing inspiration from Picasso, Brahim's artistic style is characterised by bold Cubist elements, complemented by dominant yellow hues influenced by Van Gogh and cherished childhood memories with his grandmother. Female figures often appear in his work, symbolising strength and nurturing, reflecting his reverence for women.
Currently based in London, Brahim continues to evolve as an artist, translating his understanding of sculpture into his linear compositions on canvas. His paintings delve into the interplay between form, colour, and narrative, celebrating his North African heritage while resisting categorisation. The result is a collection of strong, vibrant, and meaningful artworks that captivate with their unique blend of colours, forms, and narratives.
