The man coming out from a snail's shell and his eyes are covered. The shell represents his past as a slave. However, after he gets a chance to escape, he finds himself unable to recognise or adjust to the new world. He chooses to avoid confronting the challenges of
his unfamiliar surroundings by covering his eyes.

The reason why he chose the snail was that snail is an insect people tend to neglect and think they’re harmless, but snail is actually a dangerous insect. Reflecting on the man, he was ignored by everyone, and he hid himself in the shell.
