Will found profound inspiration when he started meeting people in
Manchester and made friends through Derek Jarman's solo exhibition
"PROTEST". Due to Section 28, Will had never heard of Derek Jarman
before. At that time, schools restricted the information students could
access, limiting exposure to LGBTQ+ topics.

Through the (Un)Defining Queer exhibition at the Whitworth Gallery,
Will connect with new friends and discover a wealth of information about queer culture. This exhibition, along with the canonisation of David Hoyle as a queer saint, similar to Derek Jarman, deeply influenced him. Hence, the first painting is titled "David Hoyle."

The other two paintings, Face 1 and Face 2, were created in the same
style, and are inspired by the anguish, pain, and abuse that queer people
have endured. Through his art, Will seeks to transform these
experiences into something beautiful, using the creative process as a
form of therapy. Will said if he had access to queer information, he
would have started his creative path much earlier.
